2019 Blue Spruce Award Nomination
We are thrilled to announce that I Love Sharks, Too! by Leanne Shirtliffe and illustrated by Lorenzo Montatore (Sky Pony Press) has been shortlisted for the 2019 Blue Spruce Award!
The Blue Spruce Award is part of the Ontario Library Association Forest of Reading—Canada’s largest recreational reading program. This award helps to bring recently published picture books to children from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 2. It also aims to promote reading at a critical time when children are developing their skills in evaluating picture-based stories and text.
The winner of the Blue Spruce Award will be announced on May 19, 2019, during the Festival of Trees in Toronto.
Here’s more about the book and author:
Stevie likes sharks. Like a LOT. In response to everything his mom asks him, Stevie has an excellent shark fact in response.
“Brush your teeth, Stevie.”
“Mom, Mako sharks don’t have to brush their teeth because they are covered in fluoride.”
From morning to bedtime—you would think this might totally wear his mom down. But guess who likes sharks, too?
The book is filled with tons of fun facts, and also information about different shark breeds.
Leanne Shirtliffe is an award-winning humor writer. She writes for the Huffington Post, Nickelodeon's humor site NickMom.com, and authored the book Don't Lick the Mini Van (Skyhorse 2013). When she's not stopping her children from licking frozen flagpoles, Leanne teaches English to teenagers. You can read more about her misadventures at IronicMom.com. She currently lives in Calgary, Alberta.
